Richard Turner & Associates Ltd. (RTA) is a health and safety consultancy, specialising in construction. The company delivers high quality, client focussed and responsive services.

We work hard to develop good communication and positive working relationships on all our projects, visiting sites and company premises to discuss requirements directly with design teams, principal contractors, sub-contractors and clients.

We are committed to supplying the same high quality of service, irrespective of contract size, to all our clients and this has been both recognised and rewarded in the form of awards, referrals and long-term contract renewals. We have worked with a number of our clients since the incorporation of the company 13 years ago.

We hold approved consultant and preferred trading partner status with several organisations, including major retailers, principal contractors and UK construction companies.

Client: Multiplex Construction (UK) Ltd

Details: Health and safety consultancy relating to the dismantling of tower cranes, located at Docklands Light Railway.

Scope of works:

To review and advise on method statements, to attend meetings and provide health & safety advice on site, to report on findings and observations.

Client: Canary Wharf Contractors Ltd

Details: To provide independent health and safety consultancy in respect of construction works adjacent to railways.

Scope of works:

To review risk assessments and health and safety plans in respect of the risks to the railway; to assist in the preparation of method statements on behalf of the principal contractor; to attend weekly meetings with the client to provide h&s briefings; to audit the competency of sub-contractors and their operatives and advise on requisite training.

Client: MBDA

Details: DSE Assessments / occupational health advice and support – UK wide

Scope of works:

RTAL carried out 1500+ workstation risk assessments in accordance with the Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations 1992 (as amended in 2002) and best practice. These were completed at MBDA sites across the UK. Additional works comprised on site assessor training, reports with recommended actions and specialist occupational health support, advice and referrals.

Client: Masterlease

Details: Compiling an Asset Register and PPM Schedule for a 3 storey office complex in Birmingham

Scope of works:

Using handheld technology RTAL surveyed the office buildings to compile a complete list of assets, which were given a unique code. In conjunction with the Building Manual, previously collated by RTAL, and other information sources, RTAL then produced a comprehensive planned preventative maintenance (PPM) regime for the FM team to facilitate the efficient and effective daily operation and maintenance of the building.

Client: Ellmer Construction

Details: To produce operating and maintenance manuals for various packages at the Olympic Stadium.

Scope of works:

To contact sub-contractors and designers for operating and maintenance information, retrieve information from 4Projects system, issue weekly status reports, organise the information received and produce an electronic operating and maintenance manual in the Sir Robert McAlpine format.

Client: NCS

Details: CDM Regulations training to project managers, Cumbria

Scope of works:

The purpose of the training seminar was to enhance in-house knowledge of CDM2007 and construction health and safety. The course included a clarification of the roles and duties of all parties (duty holders) involved in construction projects, information relating to the legal framework of projects and details of how to assess the competency of sub-contractors.

Details: Construction of new primary school, London

Scope of works:

Provision of Building Manual, including Health & Safety File in hard copy and electronic format. The project involved collating design, operating and maintenance information from 50+ parties, including project designers, consultants, sub-contractors, suppliers and manufacturers.

Client: Marks & Spencer

Details: Conversion of an old Woolworths store to a new Marks & Spencer store, Luton

Scope of works:

Richard Turner & Associates Ltd was the appointed CDM co-ordinator for the Marks & Spencer Luton store development.

Our works comprised:

  • Advising and assisting the client in their duties, in particular with regard to the appointment of competent designers and contractors; and the duty to ensure that adequate arrangements were in place for managing the project
  • Issuing initial F10 Notification and subsequent Additional F10 Notifications to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE)
  • Visiting site and liaising with all parties to collate the information required for the Pre-Construction Stage Health and Safety Information Pack.
  • Liaising with the principal contractor regarding ongoing design
  • Co-ordinating the health and safety aspects of the design and ensuring cooperation between design parties
  • Facilitating good communication between client, designers and contractors
  • Preparing/updating the Health and Safety File and filing with e-DM in accordance with M&S plc procedures

Client: Marks and Spencer

Details: Energy efficiency initiatives carried out in stores across the UK

Scope of works:

Richard Turner & Associates Ltd was appointed in the role of health and safety consultant for a roll out project focussing on replacing fluorescent tube lighting in freezer cases with more energy efficient LEDs. This work was carried out in approximately 180 stores throughout the UK.

RTAL provided the client with pragmatic advice on health and safety issues relating to the works. As part of the project, RTAL also conducted a competency assessment on the main contractor.

Client: ISG

Details: New build £25m FE college in Leicester

Scope of works:

Our works comprised the collation of all O&M manuals, production of health and safety file, design, implementation and delivery of all information in the clickbm format. ISG were kept fully informed and updated about the progress of the manual throughout the construction process and the manuals were delivered 3 weeks ahead of schedule, 100% complete and signed off by the CDM co-ordinator.

Towards the end of the project a significant portion of FF&E was integrated into the main contract works and this additional information was seamlessly incorporated into the existing clickbm manual.

Client: Barratt Homes

Details: To produce building manuals, incorporating the health and safety file, and tenant manuals / home user guides for a number of schemes throughout the UK.

Scope of works:

To contact sub-contractors and designers for relevant information, retrieve information from a document management system, attend site when required and compile the building manual and tenant manuals / home user guides in a range of formats, suitable for both private and housing association units.
